Step 3: Goals & Amounts

Step 3 of 5 -- Set Your Goals

The goals step is where you configure the financial details of your campaign: how much you want to raise, when the campaign runs, and how donation amounts are presented to donors. This step also includes settings for tax deductibility and processing fees.

Fundraising Goal

If you selected Fundraising as your campaign type in Step 1, you will see a Fundraising Goal field at the top of this step. This is the target amount you are trying to raise.

  • This field is required for fundraising campaigns (not shown for ongoing donation campaigns).
  • The amount must be greater than $0.
  • Enter the total dollar amount without the currency symbol -- the "$" sign is already shown in the field.

Examples of realistic fundraising goals:

CampaignGoal
Youth Soccer Team Travel Fund$3,000
New Gym Equipment for Community Center$15,000
Annual School Supplies for 200 Students$5,000
Scholarship Fund for Summer Program$10,000
tip

Set a goal that is ambitious but achievable. Campaigns that reach their goal quickly build momentum and encourage additional donations. If you are unsure, start with a conservative target -- you can always raise the goal later if you exceed it.

Campaign Duration

Set the start and end dates for your campaign. These dates determine when the campaign is active and accepting donations.

Start Date

  • This field is required.
  • Click the date field to open a date picker.
  • The start date cannot be in the past -- only today's date or a future date is allowed.

End Date

  • This field is optional.
  • The end date must be after the start date.
  • The maximum campaign duration is 365 days from the start date.
  • If you leave the end date empty, the campaign will remain open-ended until you manually close it.

info

The end date field is disabled until you select a start date. Once you pick a start date, the end date picker will only allow dates after your chosen start date, up to one year later.

Tax Deductible

Toggle the Tax Deductible setting to indicate whether donations to this campaign qualify for a tax deduction.

  • Off by default.
  • When enabled, a "Tax Deductible" badge appears on your campaign card and detail page.
  • Only enable this if your organization is a registered 501(c)(3) or equivalent tax-exempt entity.

caution

Only mark your campaign as tax-deductible if your organization truly qualifies. Misrepresenting tax-deductible status can create legal issues for both your organization and your donors.

Cover Processing Fees

Toggle the Cover Processing Fees setting to control who pays the payment processing charges (credit card fees, Stripe fees, etc.).

  • On by default (recommended).
  • When enabled, donors are given the option to add a small amount to their donation to cover the transaction fee, so your organization receives the full donation amount.
  • When disabled, your organization absorbs the processing fees and receives slightly less than the donated amount.

Donation Limits (Optional)

The Donation Limits section lets you control how much a donor can give per transaction. This is an optional feature that you can enable or disable with the toggle.

When enabled, three fields appear:

Minimum Amount

The lowest amount a donor can contribute in a single transaction.

  • Enter a value greater than $0.
  • If left empty or set to 0, there is no minimum enforced.
  • Example: Set to $10 to prevent very small transactions.

Maximum Amount

The highest amount a donor can contribute in a single transaction.

  • Enter a value greater than $0.
  • Must be greater than the minimum amount.
  • Example: Set to $1,000 to cap individual transactions.

Preset Amount

The default amount that is pre-filled in the donation form when a donor opens it.

  • Enter a value greater than $0.
  • Must be at or above the minimum amount and at or below the maximum amount.
  • This is the amount donors will see by default, so choose a value that represents a typical or recommended donation.
  • Example: Set to $50 as a sensible default.

tip

Setting a preset amount of $50 or $100 is a common strategy. Research shows that donors often accept the default amount rather than choosing their own, so choose a preset that represents a meaningful contribution for your campaign.

Suggested Amounts (Optional)

The Suggested Amounts section lets you create quick-select buttons that donors see on the donation form. Instead of typing an amount, donors can tap one of your suggested values to donate quickly.

When enabled, three amount fields appear where you can set your suggested values:

FieldDescriptionExample
Amount 1First suggested amount$25
Amount 2Second suggested amount$50
Amount 3Third suggested amount$100
  • Each amount must be greater than $0.
  • All three fields are optional -- you can set one, two, or all three.
  • Only amounts with a value are shown to donors.

How suggested amounts appear to donors:

Donors will see your suggested amounts as quick-select buttons on the donation form. For example, if you set $25, $50, and $100, donors will see three buttons they can tap to instantly select that amount.

tip

Choose suggested amounts that span a range. A common pattern is to offer a low, medium, and high option:

Campaign TypeLowMediumHigh
Small community project$10$25$50
School fundraiser$25$50$100
Large capital campaign$50$100$250

This "anchoring" approach helps donors self-select an amount that feels right for them.

Validation

Before you can proceed to Step 4, the following must be satisfied:

For all campaigns:

  • Start Date must be selected.
  • If an End Date is provided, it must be after the start date.

For fundraising campaigns:

  • Fundraising Goal must be filled in and greater than $0.

For donation limits (when enabled):

  • Minimum Amount, if provided, must be greater than $0.
  • Maximum Amount, if provided, must be greater than $0 and greater than the minimum.
  • Preset Amount, if provided, must be greater than $0, at least the minimum, and at most the maximum.

For suggested amounts (when enabled):

  • Each amount, if provided, must be greater than $0.
