Understanding Fees
Every paid transaction on FeatsClub involves two types of fees. Understanding these fees is important for pricing your events, memberships, and donations accurately -- and for deciding whether your organization absorbs the fees or passes them to your customers.
The Two Fees on Every Transaction
1. Stripe Processing Fee (Paid to Stripe)
Stripe charges a processing fee for handling the payment infrastructure -- credit card networks, fraud prevention, bank transfers, and security. FeatsClub does not control these fees; they are set by Stripe.
| Payment Method | Stripe Fee |
|---|---|
| Credit / Debit Card | 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction |
| ACH Bank Transfer | 0.8% per transaction (capped at $5.00) |
These are standard Stripe rates that apply to all businesses using the platform. You can learn more about Stripe's pricing on their website.
ACH bank transfer is an option where customers pay directly from their bank account instead of using a credit or debit card. The processing fee is significantly lower (0.8% versus 2.9% + $0.30), making it attractive for larger payments. ACH is available for payments above a certain threshold.
2. FeatsClub Platform Fee (Paid to FeatsClub)
FeatsClub charges a platform fee for providing the tools and services that power your paid events, memberships, and donation campaigns. This fee supports the platform infrastructure, payment integrations, dashboard, and ongoing feature development.
- The default platform fee is approximately 3.5% of the transaction amount.
- For lower-priced items, a small fixed amount may apply instead of the percentage.
- Your exact fee structure may vary based on your pricing tier and transaction type.
The platform fee applies to all paid transactions: event tickets, membership payments, and donation contributions.
Fee Calculation Example
Here is how fees work on a typical $100 transaction paid by credit card:
| Line Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Listed price (event ticket) | $100.00 |
| Stripe processing fee (2.9% + $0.30) | -$3.20 |
| FeatsClub platform fee (~3.5%) | -$3.50 |
| Total fees | -$6.70 |
| You receive | $93.30 |
Here is the same $100 transaction paid by ACH bank transfer:
| Line Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Listed price (event ticket) | $100.00 |
| Stripe processing fee (0.8%) | -$0.80 |
| FeatsClub platform fee (~3.5%) | -$3.50 |
| Total fees | -$4.30 |
| You receive | $95.70 |
Who Pays the Fees?
You have two options for handling fees, and you can choose differently for each event, membership, or donation campaign you create.
Option 1: Organization Absorbs Fees (Default)
When you absorb fees, the customer pays exactly the price you listed. Fees are deducted from your revenue before payout.
| Detail | Value |
|---|---|
| Listed price | $100.00 |
| Customer pays | $100.00 |
| Fees deducted | -$6.70 |
| You receive | $93.30 |
Best for: Clean, predictable pricing. Customers see a round number and know exactly what they are paying. This works well for event tickets and membership fees where you want simple, attractive pricing.
Option 2: Pass Fees to Customer / Donor
When you pass fees, the fees are added on top of the listed price. Your organization receives the full listed amount.
| Detail | Value |
|---|---|
| Listed price | $100.00 |
| Fees added to total | +$6.70 |
| Customer pays | $106.70 |
| You receive | $100.00 |
Best for: Donation campaigns where donors typically expect and accept covering processing costs. Also useful when your pricing is fixed (for example, a $50 registration fee mandated by a league) and you need to receive exactly that amount.
Side-by-Side Comparison
| Organization Absorbs | Pass to Customer | |
|---|---|---|
| Customer pays | $100.00 | ~$106.70 |
| You receive | $93.30 | $100.00 |
| Customer experience | Clean price, no surprises | Slightly higher total at checkout |
| Your revenue | Reduced by fees | Full listed price |
| Best for | Events, memberships | Donations, fixed-fee registrations |
How to Enable "Pass Fees to Customer"
You choose the fee handling option when creating or editing a paid item:
- When creating an event, membership, or donation campaign, look for the payment configuration section.
- Find the toggle or checkbox labeled "Pass processing fees to attendee", "Pass processing fees to donor", or similar wording depending on the item type.
- Enable the option to add fees to the customer's total. Disable it to absorb fees yourself.
For donations, passing fees to donors is a widely accepted practice. Most donors understand and are willing to cover a small processing fee so that 100% of their intended donation reaches the organization. Data from charitable platforms shows that the majority of donors opt in when given the choice.
For events and memberships, absorbing fees typically provides a cleaner customer experience. Setting your price at $50 is more appealing than showing $50 + $3.35 in fees at checkout.
Fees by Transaction Type

| Membership Payments | 2.9% + $0.30 | 0.8% (capped $5) | ~3.5% | Yes |
| Donations | 2.9% + $0.30 | 0.8% (capped $5) | ~3.5% | Yes |
