Member-Only Events

One of the most powerful benefits of running memberships on FeatsClub is the ability to create events that are exclusively available to your members. Member-only events add real, tangible value to your memberships and give people a compelling reason to enroll.

How Member-Only Events Work

When you create an event and configure a ticket as member-only, FeatsClub restricts who can purchase that ticket:

  • Members with a valid, active membership in your organization can see and purchase the member-only ticket
  • Non-members see that the ticket exists but cannot purchase it -- they are prompted to enroll in a membership first

This creates a natural upsell path: someone interested in attending a member-only event is motivated to purchase a membership, which gives them access to the event and all other membership benefits.

Setting Up a Member-Only Event

To create an event with member-only access:

  1. Go to Dashboard > Events and create a new event (or edit an existing one)
  2. In the Ticket Configuration step, add a ticket type
  3. Enable the Restrict to Members Only toggle on that ticket
  4. Complete the rest of the event setup and publish

When this toggle is enabled, only people with a currently active membership in your organization can purchase that specific ticket.

tip

You can mix member-only and regular tickets on the same event. For example, create a "Member Price" ticket at a discounted rate restricted to members, and a "General Admission" ticket at full price open to everyone. This rewards membership while still allowing non-members to attend.

How Members See Member-Only Events

When a member views an event with member-only tickets:

  • The ticket appears as available for purchase
  • They can select the ticket and proceed to registration and payment as normal
  • Their membership status is verified automatically during checkout

When a non-member views the same event:

  • The member-only ticket is visible but marked as restricted
  • They see a message indicating that a membership is required to purchase the ticket
  • They may be directed to your membership offerings to enroll

How Membership Status Is Validated

During event registration, FeatsClub checks the member's enrollment status in real time:

  1. The system looks up the user's membership responses for your organization
  2. It verifies that at least one membership has an Active status
  3. It confirms the membership is within its validity period (not expired)
  4. If all checks pass, the member can proceed with the member-only ticket purchase

This validation happens automatically -- you do not need to manually verify anyone's membership status.

Use Cases for Member-Only Events

Member-only events work well for a wide range of organizations:

OrganizationMember-Only Event Examples
Sports ClubMembers-only scrimmage nights, priority tournament registration, exclusive coaching clinics
Dance StudioMembers-only masterclasses, choreography workshops, studio social events
Gym / Fitness CenterMembers-only group classes, nutrition seminars, facility open house
School / AcademyParent-only information sessions, student showcase events, alumni reunions
Community CenterMembers-only movie nights, holiday parties, guest speaker events
Professional AssociationMembers-only networking events, certification workshops, annual conferences

Combining Members-Only with Pricing Tiers

A common strategy is to offer tiered pricing where members get a discounted rate:

Example: Annual Gala Event

  • "Member Ticket" -- $50 (member-only)
  • "General Admission" -- $75 (open to everyone)
  • "VIP Table" -- $200 (open to everyone)

This structure lets members feel the value of their membership at every event, encourages non-members to enroll, and still allows broad participation.

Tips for Member-Only Events

Start with exclusive value, then expand

Begin by hosting one or two member-only events per month. As your member base grows, you can offer more exclusive programming without diluting the value for existing members.

Promote member-only events in your membership description

When setting up your memberships, list "Access to member-only events" as a key benefit. This helps potential members understand the concrete value they will receive.

Use member-only events for retention

Regularly scheduled member-only events (e.g., a monthly members mixer or a quarterly workshop) give members ongoing reasons to stay enrolled and renew their membership.

caution

If you change an event's ticket from member-only to open (or vice versa) after people have already registered, existing registrations are not affected. The change only applies to future registrations.
