Create a New Stripe Account
This guide walks you through every step of creating a new Stripe account and connecting it to your FeatsClub organization. Follow these instructions if you do not already have a Stripe account.
Before You Begin
Make sure you have the following information ready before you start. Having everything prepared will make the process much faster.
Required Information
| Information | Details |
|---|---|
| Legal name | Your full legal name as it appears on your government-issued ID (for individual/sole proprietor) or your registered business name (for companies) |
| Date of birth | Your personal date of birth for identity verification |
| SSN or EIN | Last 4 digits of your Social Security Number (individuals) or your Employer Identification Number (businesses). Some business types may require the full SSN. |
| Home address | Your personal residential address for identity verification |
| Business address | Your organization's address (can be the same as your home address for sole proprietors) |
| Bank account details | Your bank's routing number and your account number -- this is where Stripe will send your payouts |
| Phone number | A phone number where you can receive verification codes |
| Government-issued ID | A driver's license, passport, or state ID -- Stripe may ask you to upload a photo for identity verification |
The entire process takes about 10-15 minutes if you have your information ready. You can also save your progress partway through and return later to finish.
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Navigate to Payment Profiles
- Log in to your FeatsClub account and go to your organization dashboard.
- In the left sidebar, click Payment Profiles.
- Alternatively, go to Settings and then click Payment Profiles.
- You will see the Payment Profiles page. If this is your first time, the page will show no connected profiles.
Step 2: Click "Connect Stripe Account"
- Click the Connect Stripe Account button at the top of the Payment Profiles page.
- A modal dialog opens presenting you with two options for connecting Stripe.
Step 3: Select "Create New Account"
- In the modal, click the Create New Account option.
- Click the Create New Account button to confirm your selection.
- FeatsClub will redirect you to Stripe's secure onboarding form in your browser.
You are now leaving FeatsClub temporarily. Stripe's onboarding form is hosted on Stripe's own website (connect.stripe.com). This is completely normal and secure. You will be redirected back to FeatsClub once you complete the form.
Step 4: Stripe Onboarding -- Choose Your Business Type
Once Stripe's onboarding form loads, the first thing you will be asked is your business type. Select the option that best describes your organization:
| Business Type | Choose This If... |
|---|---|
| Individual / Sole Proprietor | You are a single person running your organization, freelancer, or independent instructor |
| Company / LLC | Your organization is a registered business entity (LLC, Corporation, Partnership) |
| Nonprofit Organization | Your organization is a registered 501(c)(3) or similar nonprofit entity |
- Select your business type from the dropdown or radio buttons.
- Click Continue to proceed.
If you are unsure which type to choose, Individual / Sole Proprietor is the most common choice for small organizations, clubs, and independent instructors. You can update your business type later in your Stripe dashboard if needed.
Step 5: Enter Your Personal Information
Stripe requires personal identity verification for all account holders, regardless of business type. Fill in the following:
- Legal first name -- Your first name as it appears on your government ID.
- Legal last name -- Your last name as it appears on your government ID.
- Email address -- The email you want associated with your Stripe account. You will use this to log in to Stripe's dashboard.
- Date of birth -- Your full date of birth (month, day, year).
- Social Security Number -- Enter the last 4 digits of your SSN. Some business types or higher transaction volumes may require the full 9 digits.
- Home address -- Your personal residential address, including street address, city, state, and ZIP code.
- Phone number -- A phone number where Stripe can send verification codes.
Enter your information exactly as it appears on your government-issued ID. Mismatches between your entered name and your ID can delay verification or cause your application to be flagged for manual review.
Step 6: Enter Your Business Information
If you selected Company / LLC or Nonprofit Organization as your business type, you will also need to provide business details:
- Legal business name -- The official registered name of your business or nonprofit (as it appears on your tax documents).
- Doing Business As (DBA) -- If your organization operates under a different name from its legal name, enter it here. This is optional.
- Business address -- Your organization's physical address. This can be different from your personal address.
- EIN (Employer Identification Number) -- Your organization's federal tax identification number. This is a 9-digit number assigned by the IRS.
- Business website or social media URL -- Provide your organization's website URL or a social media profile page. Stripe uses this to verify your business identity.
- Industry / Category -- Select the industry or category that best describes what your organization does (for example, "Education", "Sports & Recreation", "Nonprofit", etc.).
If you are an Individual / Sole Proprietor, Stripe may skip this step entirely or only ask for a few of these fields. The exact fields shown depend on your business type and region.
Step 7: Add Your Bank Account for Payouts
This is where you tell Stripe where to send your money. Stripe will deposit your earnings into this bank account on a regular schedule.
- Routing number -- Your bank's 9-digit routing number. This identifies your bank. You can find it on a check or by calling your bank.
- Account number -- Your bank account number. This is typically 10-12 digits.
- Confirm account number -- Re-enter your account number to make sure there are no typos.
Double-check your routing number and account number carefully. If these are entered incorrectly, your payouts will fail and you will need to update them later in your Stripe dashboard. Stripe does not validate that the account belongs to you until the first payout is attempted.
Use a checking account rather than a savings account. Some savings accounts have limits on the number of withdrawals per month, which can interfere with regular payouts.
Step 8: Review and Submit
Before submitting, Stripe shows a summary of all the information you have entered.
- Review each section carefully. Make sure your name, address, business details, and bank account information are all correct.
- Agree to Stripe's Terms of Service. Check the box confirming you agree to Stripe's terms.
- Click Submit to complete your application.
Step 9: Identity Verification (If Required)
Depending on your business type and the information you provided, Stripe may ask you to verify your identity by uploading a document:
- Government-issued photo ID -- Upload a clear photo of your driver's license, passport, or state-issued ID card.
- Follow the on-screen instructions -- Stripe may ask you to take a photo of the front and back of your ID, or upload a file from your computer.
- Wait for processing -- Stripe's automated system typically verifies documents within minutes, but it can take up to 2-3 business days in some cases.
Not everyone is asked to upload an ID. If Stripe can verify your identity using the information you provided (name, SSN, address), this step may be skipped entirely.
Step 10: Return to FeatsClub
After you complete Stripe's onboarding form (and any verification steps), you are automatically redirected back to FeatsClub.
- Your new payment profile now appears on the Payment Profiles page.
- Check the status of your profile:
| Status | What It Means |
|---|---|
| Active (green badge) | Your Stripe account is fully verified. You can start accepting payments immediately. |
| Pending (orange badge) | Stripe needs more time or additional information to verify your account. See Completing Pending Setup. |
After Your Account Is Set Up
Once your payment profile shows Active, you are ready to start accepting payments. Here is what happens next:
Your Profile Is Set as Default
If this is your first (or only) payment profile, it is automatically set as the default profile. This means all new paid events, memberships, and donation campaigns will use this Stripe account to process payments.
You Can Start Creating Paid Content
You can now:
- Create ticketed events with paid registration
- Set up paid memberships with membership fees
- Launch donation campaigns to accept contributions
Payouts Are Sent Weekly
By default, Stripe sends your accumulated earnings to your bank account every Monday. Your first payout may take 7-14 days while Stripe establishes your account. After that, payouts follow the regular weekly schedule.
You can change your payout schedule (daily, weekly, monthly) in your Stripe dashboard at dashboard.stripe.com under Settings > Payouts.
Access Your Stripe Dashboard
You can log into your Stripe dashboard at any time at dashboard.stripe.com using the email address you provided during setup. From there, you can:
- View all transactions and payment history
- Track payouts to your bank account
- Download financial reports and tax documents
- Handle chargebacks and disputes
- Update your bank account or business information
Tips for a Smooth Setup
- Have your bank details ready before you start. Looking up routing and account numbers mid-form is the most common reason people abandon setup.
- Use your legal name exactly as it appears on your government ID. Even small differences (like using "Bob" instead of "Robert") can trigger a manual review.
- Take a clear photo of your ID if asked. Make sure all four corners of the document are visible, the text is legible, and there is no glare.
- Use a business email for your Stripe account if you have one. This makes it easier to keep personal and business finances separate.
- Check your spam folder if you are waiting for a verification email from Stripe. Their emails sometimes end up in spam or promotions folders.
Troubleshooting
I was redirected back to FeatsClub but I do not see a payment profile
This can happen if the Stripe onboarding session expired or if there was a browser issue during the redirect. Try clicking Connect Stripe Account again and going through the process. If you already created a Stripe account, choose Link an Existing Account instead to connect the account you just created.
The form is asking for information I do not have
You can leave Stripe's onboarding form and return later. FeatsClub will save your progress. Go back to your Payment Profiles page and click Continue Setup to pick up where you left off.
My account was rejected by Stripe
This is rare but can happen if Stripe is unable to verify your identity or if your business type is in an industry that Stripe does not support. Contact Stripe Support for details on why your application was declined.
What's Next?
Once your payment profile is active, you are ready to start accepting payments. Here are some suggested next steps:
- Create a ticketed event -- Set up your first paid event with ticket pricing
- Create a paid membership -- Set up membership fees for your organization
- Launch a donation campaign -- Start accepting donations from supporters
If your profile is showing as "Pending," head to Completing Pending Setup to learn how to finish the verification process.
